What's the difference?

No two search engines retrieve the same results
Each search engine searches different parts of the web (usenet groups, images, ftp sites, etc.)
Each search engine is updated at different times
Each search engine uses different criteria to organize your search results

General Search Engines: retrieve webpages on all different topics and list every webpage they find without regard to quality
Academic Search Engines: retrieve webpages that have been judged to have high-quality information relevant to students, faculty, and other researchers
Meta Search Engines: search several other search engines at one time and show you the top results from each
Subject-Specific Search Engines: only look for webpages in a certain field
Special Search Tools: Image, audio, people, news, and translation search engines
Deep Web Search Engines: retrieve webpages that aren't searchable by general search engines
Search Engine Tips: Comparison Charts, tutorials, latest news, etc.
