LSU Libraries' Faculty Guidelines for Researching Remotely
Librarians who are required to research as other academic faculty are afforded the same accommodations of working remotely. LSU Libraries allows for flexibility in location regarding research time. Some examples of this might include librarians using blocks of time during the summer months or during semester breaks to devote to research; librarians using an extended period to meet a publication deadline or finish an article.
Working remotely however cannot be spontaneous, and must be arranged by a formal proposal planned and approved through the level of Dean of the Libraries. These periods of time would be accompanied by an expectation of "production," requiring measurable results (i.e., an article or chapter or book in print) and will be tracked by the annual evaluation process. The periods of time need be negotiated with the librarian's supervisor and with the help of the librarian's mentor or another selected faculty advisor, and are limited to 15% of effort as indicated in the job description.
