TOP CANDIDATES FOR TRANSFER TO SPECIAL COLLECTIONS, revised May 2005

Automatic transfer:

1. Anything printed anywhere before 1801 - transfer is automatic unless condition renders it unusable. Runs of serials beginning before 1801 must be evaluated to select a cut-off date.

2. Anything published before 1830 west of the Mississippi River. The further west you go, the later the cut-off date for interest is, so in San Francisco, for example, items from the 1870s are potentially good candidates for transfer.

3. Anything published in the Confederate states during the Civil War, 1861-1865.

4. Anything with a Louisiana imprint or substantial Louisiana-related content that is NOT already duplicated in LLMVC. This will be checked at the point of withdrawal.

5. Items printed in North or South America before 1821.

6. Materials that should be preserved in the LSU Libraries= collections and are at risk in the open stacks because of format or content, such as

8. Anything published between 1830 and 1860 that is in its original publisher=s binding and the binding is in exceptionally good condition. Publisher=s bindings from 1860-1890 that are exceptionally striking and in excellent condition are also of interest.

9. Anything that seems highly unusual in its physical presentation or content.

10. Items that may be of importance to the history of the university, the history of the LSU Libraries= collections, and/or the area. These include items with bookplates, autographs, or other marks of ownership of
