Collection Development Policy Statement
LSU Libraries Collection Development Objectives
To support faculty and student research and the curriculum through the Master of Social Work program and the Ph.D. program that began in the Fall of 1996; to support teaching at the undergraduate level to students in other colleges, including an undergraduate minor in Corrections; to support internships in the fields of health and mental health, and families and children; to support Title IV-E partnership with the state child welfare agency (Office of Community Services); to support partnership with the state Office of Mental Health; to support linkage with the Federal District Court's oversight of the state prison system; and to support productive linkages with community agencies and organizations.
Faculty and Instruction
The School of Social Work masters program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
There are 18 faculty members in addition to adjunct faculty. All faculty members have a doctorate in social work or a related field, and all except one have a MSW from an accredited social work program. This includes the director of the Office of Social Service Research and Development, who holds the title Research Associate Professor. The school currently has two endowed professorships: the Margaret Champagne Womack Professor of Addictive Disorders and the Betty J. Stewart Professorship in Social Work Practice with Children.
In addition, the Director of the Office of Social Service Research and Development, the Director and Assistant Director of Field Internship, and the Director of Coummunity Relations and Program Enhancement hold MSW degrees and are licensed Social Workers. There are 6 Emeriti Professors, 3 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors, and 1 Instructor. The school is recruiting to fill one senior level position and two assistant professor positions.

In addition to print materials, LSU Libraries will consider electronic titles on a case by case basis. They may be initiated by the Liaison or a member of the School. Decisions will be influenced by the titles that will benefit the greatest number of students, faculty, and staff at the best possible price. Purchase of remotely accessed texts must follow the policy and procedures set forth in Procedures for Acquiring and Processing Electronic Resources.
