Nuclear Science Center

Collection Development Policy Statement

Library's Collection Development Objectives

Support the Nuclear Science Center (NSC) research and curriculum. The center is an academic unit of the Center for Coastal, Energy and Environmental Resources (CCEER), offering undergraduate, master's and inter-disciplinary doctorate degree programs. The NSC provides support and consultation in nuclear topics, also through the Radiation Safety Office whose responsibilities include insuring the University's compliance with state and federal nuclear regulatory requirements.

Curriculum Program Descriptions

An undergraduate minor in nuclear science is available. The master's program includes four areas of emphasis: health physics ( radiation protection); medical radiation sciences (medical physics); nuclear engineering; and nuclear-related research (applied or basic). A medical radiation sciences option is offered in conjunction with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge. The doctoral program is an interdisciplinary degree offered through the NSC and the College of Engineering.

Areas of Specialization/Research

New and Expanding Areas of Interest

CD ROMs, Electronic Books, Remotely Accessed Texts

LSU Libraries will purchase CD ROM works on a case by case basis when requested by faculty members or graduate students in need of enhanced capabilities afforded by CD ROMs. The LSU Libraries recognizes that electronic information, e-books, electronic paper, etc. merit attention. The purchase of access to remote data and texts, such as J-STOR and others, will be pursued when the ownership of remote products will benefit the greatest number of students, staff, and faculty at the best possible price. Purchase of remotely accessed texts must follow the policy and procedures set forth in Procedures for Acquiring and Processing Electronic Resources.
