Mechanical Engineering

Collection Development Policy Statement

Library's Collection Development Objectives

Provide support for students in degree programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree levels, in addition to research on various facets of mechanical engineering. Department research is enhanced by specialized laboratories in Materials Science and Engineering, Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Advanced Micro structures and Devices, and at the Interactive Modeling Research Center facility. The CADLAB (Computer Aided Design Laboratory) specializes in computer graphics.

Curriculum Program Descriptions

Mechanical engineering uses the basic sciences such as chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer programming. It relies heavily on a firm understanding of mechanics and thermal sciences to analyze the conversion and transmission of energy in its many forms. The department supports the Interdepartmental M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Engineering Science.

Areas of Specialization/Research

New and Expanding Areas of Interest

CD ROMs, Electronic Books, Remotely Accessed Texts

LSU Libraries will purchase CD ROM works on a case by case basis when requested by faculty members or graduate students in need of enhanced capabilities afforded by CD ROMs. The LSU Libraries recognizes that electronic information, e-books, electronic paper, etc. merit attention. The purchase of access to remote data and texts, such as J-STOR and others, will be pursued when the ownership of remote products will benefit the greatest number of students, staff, and faculty at the best possible price. Purchase of remotely accessed texts must follow the policy and procedures set forth in Procedures for Acquiring and Processing Electronic Resources.
