Interior Design

Collection Development Policy Statement

Library's Collection Development Objectives

The mission of the LSU Libraries with regard to the Department of Interior Design is to support the research and curricular needs of the faculty and students through the undergraduate level.

Curriculum Program Descriptions

Although closely allied to the disciplines of art and architecture, the department of Interior Design is a separate unit of the College of Art and Design and offers a professional degree in a four year baccalaureate program. The program focuses on both residential and commercial interior design. Other related fields are landscape architecture, industrial design, graphic design, engineering, and the behavioral sciences. The study of interior design incorporates a knowledge of business and management, construction materials and processes, lighting, and building codes. The program is accredited by the Interior Design Educators Council.

The internship program of 320 hours is done full time during a summer, or part time during a semester, either before or during  the junior or senior year.

Interior Design students also are encouraged to participate in the various LSU in Europe programs which cover the arts and humanities in several separate cities or countries. An active exchange program with universities in Britain was instituted a few years ago.

The faculty is composed of 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, and 1 professional-in-residence. Faculty research is enhanced by the grant supported Lumen Laboratory which includes computers and software for research on lighting. Classroom teaching is also supported by an extensive slide collection that is operated by the College of Art and Design and is being converted into an electronic database (VINET) with access in a classroom.

Classed Analysis

NOTE: This table represents the listings for interior design from the RLG CONSPECTUS (Version 4,1990) Worksheets. Although a collection analysis for interior design was worked on during the mid-eighties with Version 1 of the CONSPECTUS, the work never reached the point of computation for the collection levels, therefore, these levels represent comparison with the shelflist measurements and/or the intuitive process of analysis.
