Collection Development Policy Statement

Library's Collection Development Objectives

The Middleton Library collection supports the curriculum of the E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, located in the College of Agriculture. The Library's resources assist the teaching, research, and reference needs of both areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Description of the Collection

The business collection is located primarily in the Middleton Library. The business collection includes monographs, journals, reference materials, government publications, taxation, electronic databases (Lexis/Nexis, Vista, and the LOUIS indexes), and the Internet. Resources in taxation and business law are also located in the Hebert Law Center Library. A small collection of business monographs and journals are also maintained by the Finance Department in the College of Business Reading Room.

Curriculum Program Descriptions

The E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration comprises the following departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems and Decision Sciences, Management, Marketing, and the Public Administration Institute.

The Public Administration Institute provides an interdepartmental administrative framework for the study of public administration, public management, and public policy at LSU. Academic programs, research activities, and public service endeavors are included in the mission of this Institute. The Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) has research activities that include organizing major studies of importance to state and local governments. Public service activities are organized and implemented through the Public Management Program.

Also, an affiliated research center, the Louisiana Real Estate Research Institute, exists to encourage, support, and conduct applied and basic research in real estate, with particular focus on real estate and related economic activity in Louisiana.

Both the E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration and Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness offer graduate courses at the Master's and Dissertation levels.

CD ROMs, Electronic Books, Remotely Accessed Texts

LSU Libraries will purchase CD ROM works on a case by case basis when requested by faculty members or graduate students in need of enhanced capabilities afforded by CD ROMs. The LSU Libraries recognizes that electronic information, e-books, electronic paper, etc. merit attention. The purchase of access to remote data and texts, such as J-STOR and others, will be pursued when the ownership of remote products will benefit the greatest number of students, staff, and faculty at the best possible price. Purchase of remotely accessed texts must follow the policy and procedures set forth in Procedures for Acquiring and Processing Electronic Resources.
