Statement
Library's Collection Development Objectives
The mission of the LSU Libraries with regard to the School of Art is to support the curricula and research of faculty and students in the two units: studio art and art history through the master's level.
Curriculum Program Descriptions
A Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts degree is offered by the School of Art as a professional degree in which there are concentrations in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design is the accreditation agency. (A Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts is available through the College of Arts and Sciences; this program has options in art history and studio art.)
The master’s program consists of a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) with concentrations in painting and drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, or ceramics and a Master of Arts in Art History (M.A.). The M.A. program is comprised of courses in ancient, medieval, renaissance, baroque, modern, and American art.
For classroom instruction an extensive collection of slides is available in the Visual Resources Library and via an electronic database (VINET) which is networked into the classroom. Two computer labs are available in the Art Building especially for art students. Other facilities which enhance the program are the galleries. The School operates a gallery in Foster Hall and also exhibits in the LSU Union.
Internships are available for art history majors in the LSU Museum and the Visual Resources collection. Students are encouraged to participate in the LSU Abroad program. The curriculum is further extended by a program of visiting artists and a lecture series is also offered.
The faculty is comprised of 30 members. Studio faculty work is frequently exhibited in well known galleries and museums throughout the nation. Art history faculty serve widely as lecturers, curators of exhibits, and consultants. Faculty from both sectors serve continuously as the keystone faculty of the LSU Abroad program.

NOTE: This table represents the listings for art from the RLG CONSPECTUS (Version 4, 1990) Worksheets. Although a collection analysis for art was worked on during the mid-eighties with Version 1 of the CONSPECTUS, the work never reached the point of computation for the collection levels; therefore, these levels represent comparison with the shelf list measurements and/or the intuitive process of analysis.
