Architecture
Collection Development Policy
Statement
Library's Collection Development Objectives
In the discipline of architecture, the mission of the LSU Libraries is to support the research needs of the faculty and students who are engaged in the curriculum of either the five-year professional degree program or the master's degree program of the School of Architecture or one of its contingent programs.
Curriculum Program Descriptions
As a discipline, architecture is a composite of art, science and business. As a unit of the College of Art and Design, the relationships between the School of Architecture and the allied disciplines of interior design, landscape architecture, and graphic design are fully recognized and explored in collaborative studios. The School of Architecture is a member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. The five-year professional degree program is studio based and admits 80 students per year. A Masters Degree as the first professional degree was instituted in 2000. This studio based program requires three years of study and a thesis.
The curricula is supported by the services of the Office of Community Preservation (OCP) and the Office of Building Research (OBR) which are housed within the School, and the Computer-Aided Design and Geographic Information System (CADGIS) Lab which is in the College of Art and Design building. Classroom teaching is also supported by an extensive slide collection that is operated by the College of Art and Design and is being converted into an electronic database (VINET) with access in a classroom. The students are encouraged to participate in the LSU Abroad Program and expected to hold an internship with a practicing professional in the later two years of the program.
The faculty is comprised of 5 professors, 4 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 4 professional-in-residence, and 4 adjunct professors.

Classed Analysis
NOTE: This table represents the listings for architecture from the RLGCONSPECTUS (Version 4, 1990) Worksheets. Although a collection analysis for architecture was worked on during the mid-eighties with Version 1 of the CONSPECTUS, the work never reached the point of computation for the collection levels, therefore, these levels represent comparison with the shelf list measurements and/or the intuitive process of analysis.
