Computer Files and DVDs
Bibliographic Record
- Catalog according to AACR2 chapter 9.
Vol/Copy Record
- Enter CALL NUMBER in the call number field.
*CD/DVD-ROMS for Midl-Main stacks will be assigned Library of Congress classification numbers.
*CD/DVD-ROMS for all other locations will be assigned MRDF [plus the next available accession number] as the call number.
*DVD sound or video recordings will be assigned DVD [plus the next available accession number] as the call number. - Change class scheme code to ALPHANUM or LC accordingly.
- Use the appropriate category listing for item category 1.
- Special Collections:Place piggyback barcode on call number flag. Create VOL/COPY record(s) with scanned barcode for item ID.
- All other locations: Create one VOL/COPY record for each CD-ROM, DVD, or disk and place the barcode on the inside back cover of the pambinder or plastic case (other than a jewel case) supplied by the publisher.

MARC Holdings Record
- Create a MARC holdings record according to standards and local policy, if the title is multipart or if the title is mixed format.
Physical Processing
- Special Collections: Write call number on flag. Place piggyback barcode on flag.
- Middleton Reference: Procedures for the processing of CD/DVD-ROMs that are NOT part of a mixed format:
- Technical Services Staff:
- Catalog item; classify as:LC; location: OFFICE; item type: REFERENCE; Item category 1: CD-ROM or DVD-ROM; uncheck circ.
- Put item in a special jewel case that Reference is purchasing specifically for their CD-ROM or DVD-ROM pieces. These cases are different from those used for other locations.
- Attach copyright label to the back right side of the jewel case.
- Attach barcode to jewel case on back upper left hand corner.
- Attach the target to the CD/DVD-ROM.
- Write call number on a white call number label and attach to jewel case on top left hand corner.
- Send to Reference.
- Reference Staff:
- Type the call number label and attach to jewel case
- Technical Services Staff:
- All other locations:
- Floppy disk:
- Place a label with the location and call number on each floppy disk.
- Place the floppy disk in a pambinder with an envelope.
- Send to be labelled.
- CD-ROM, DVD, or DVD-ROM (with jewel case):
- Place a label with the location and call number on the jewel case.
- Place the jewel case in a pambinder.
- Send to be labelled.
- CD-ROM, DVD, or DVD-ROM (with case other than jewel case):
- Leave the CD-ROM or DVD in the case.
- Send to be labelled.
- CD-ROM, DVD, or DVD-ROM (without any case):
- Place the CD-ROM or DVD in a plastic case obtained from the labelling supply area.
- Place a label with the location and call number on the plastic case.
- Place the plastic case in a pambinder.
- Send to be labelled.
