Guidelines for Recording Holdings: Supplements

  • Record all supplements at Level 4.

Supplements That Do Not Carry the Enumeration and/or Chronology of the Basic Bibliographic Unit

  • Unnumbered Supplements

     

    • Record these supplements using the name of unit enclosed in quotation marks.

        

      867 41 |81|a"Supplement"

867 41 |81|a"Erganzung"
  • Independently Numbered Supplements

     

    • Record these supplements using the independent numbering scheme on the publication. Note: These guidelines apply to supplements that are not cataloged separately. 
      867 41 |81|ano.2(1991)-no.3(1992)

Supplements That Do Carry the Enumeration and/or Chronology for the Basic Bibliographic Unit

  • Record these supplements as subsequent-order designators. If the language of the piece is English, use the abbreviation suppl. For other languages, use the supplementary term or its abbreviation.
