Guidelines for Recording Holdings: Accompanying Material
- Accompanying material is any material issued with, and intended to be used with, the item being cataloged.
- Record all accompanying material at Level 4 in the 867 field.
- If the accompanying material does not carry the enumeration and/or chronology of the basic bibliograpic unit, record holdings as follows:

- Record single-part accompanying material using the name of unit enclosed in quotation marks.

- Record multipart accompanying material using the name of unit enclosed in quotation makes along with the extent of unit after the name of unit.

- If the accompanying material carries the enumeration and/or chronology of the basic bibliographic unit, record holdings as follows:
- Record the accompanying material as a subsequent-order designator to the basic bibliographic unit. Use a specific material designation (SMD) as the subsequent-order designator.

- Record frequent accompanying material in a public note (subfield |z) in the 867 field (there will not be a subfield |a). The first indicator is blank and the second indicator is 0 (zero).

- Record the accompanying material as a subsequent-order designator to the basic bibliographic unit. Use a specific material designation (SMD) as the subsequent-order designator.
