Guidelines For Recording Holdings:
MARC Field 852 (Location)

 

The 852 field contains information required to locate the item.

 

First Indicator (Shelving Scheme):
Code Meaning Notes
0 Library of Congress classification Use for LC and LCPER classification schemes
1 Dewey Decimal classification Use for DEWEY classification scheme
3 Superintendent of Documents classification Use for SUDOC and SUDOCPER classification schemes
8 Other Use for all other classification schemes not listed above

  • Input a valid Unicorn location
  • This subfield is required by Unicorn

  • Copy numbers will be added to DOCS_MICRO holdings records for government documents only
  • No space before or after the subfield
  • Input the copy number only immediately following the Symphony location; DO NOT preface the copy number with C. or Copy

|h Classification part
  • No space before or after the subfield
  • Always use uppercase letters
  • For LC call numbers, input the class letter and number plus the first cutter if double-cuttered
