Using the Lars Database for Standard Periodicals

User ID and Password:

  • First screen that appears
  • User ID is SDJ. Refer to manual for password.
  • Click OK.

Options Screen:

  • An explanation for each option can be find to the right of the option.
  • Choose Jobs.

Job Status Database:

  • Shows all the jobs created and/or sent in the past four weeks. Choose one of the following two options:
    1. If the shipment you are working on is listed in the database, click once on that number.
      Choose update.
    2. If the shipment you are working on is not listed in the database, click New.
      Type in the information (refer to the manual if necessary).

Stand Per Screen:

  • Click on title search.
  • This will call up the title search screen

Choosing the Correct Title:

  • Once the search information is typed in, choices will appear in the Stand Per Screen.
  • Always search the previous and next 2 choices to confirm you have right record. There are duplicates that may be old or have the wrong color. Checking other records prevents choosing an older one.

Setting Variables:

  • Once the correct record has been found, click ACCEPT once.
  • If variables have been set, the keyword screen will appear. Type in the information for the journal.
  • If variables have not been set, refer to the manual.

Binding Options:

  • After setting the variables, the Binding options screen appears.
  • In the Permanent Instructions box, type in LUO followed by a semicolon and your initials.
  • In the Collation instructions box, type in TSA (trim shave all) for standard periodicals or DNT ( do not trim) for design titles.
  • Click OK. The final screen appears. Click Permanent and Save. Doing this will cause a ticket to automatically print.


Finishing a Job:

  • Close the title search screen and exit the job. Click Refresh to update the job number.
  • Once the a truck of binding units has been completed, each ticket must be matched with its corresponding binding unit. The top two copies of the ticket are sent to the bindery, the bottom two copies are kept at Middleton.
  • While matching, check the correctness and accuracy of enumeration, call numbers, spelling, etc.
  • Count the binding units. Mark the statistics for the bindery team.
  • Fill out a Heckman shipment number slip (the slip can be printed from this location). Tape the slip to the book truck containing the corresponding binding units.
  • Move the truck to the packing area.
