LSU Libraries Library Policy Memorandum 31
Approved by Dean's Council, March 6, 2003

Subject: Use of Educational Leave

Purpose: To establish parameters within which staff members of LSU Libraries may use Educational Leave. This LPM is to serve as an addendum to LSU Policy Statement 12.

POLICY

While LSU Libraries' administration supports the personal and professional development of Libraries' employees, certain parameters must be set for use of educational leave.

Except in instances supporting the mission of the Libraries, new employees (in their first year of employment) will not be allowed to utilize Educational Leave. This restriction is necessary so that new staff have time to master skills and procedures pertaining to their job duties and to establish a record of good job performance. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the supervisor and the administration of the Libraries.

After the first year of employment with LSU Libraries, an employee will be allowed to take job related courses based on the needs of his or her particular section and the LSU Libraries as a whole. Approval is contingent on satisfactory attendance and performance prior to and during this leave.
