About the Reports

Volunteer reporters were sought, via the VisualMat listserv, to take notes at SAA conference sessions likely to be relevant to visual materials archivists. Reporters were provided with standard forms designed to elicit summaries of session content and ideas meriting further exploration. Critical comments were limited to the constructive and positive, with a goal of inspiring future professional dialog, sessions, or publication efforts.

In addition to providing a brief session summary, reporters were asked to answer the following questions.

1) What were the session strengths?
2) How effectively did the session address the topic as proposed in the program?
3) Toward what experience-level was the session geared?
4) What topics (broached or implied) merit further development in future sessions or articles?

Resulting session notes were submitted to coordinator James Eason for light editing. Multiple reports from a single session were combined into one document, and reporter names were removed. Self-described experience levels of each reporter were retained, and note text was color-coded to indicate the different reporting voices.
